Norwood, MA, March 29, 2010 – Molecular Biometrics, Inc., a metabolomics company developing novel clinical diagnostic tools for applications in personalized medicine, today announced that seasoned sales executive, Scott M. Leer, has joined the company as Executive Director, Global Sales. Leer will be responsible for managing the global distributor network for the company’s lead product, ViaMetrics-E, a rapid, non-invasive procedure that is designed to enhance in vitro fertilization (IVF) outcomes.
“Scott’s leadership in the medical device industry, having managed sales distribution networks and product launches in more than 65 countries around the world, brings important depth and on-the-ground experience as we launch ViaMetrics-E,” said James T. Posillico, PhD, President and Chief Executive Officer, Molecular Biometrics. “With over a dozen years’ experience in women’s health and reproductive medicine, Scott will complement our sales and marketing teams already in place.”
Most recently, Leer has held several key positions within the Smiths Medical Assisted Reproduction Franchise, most recently serving as Global Business Manager, Assisted Reproduction, based in the United Kingdom. Prior to that, he worked to establish and manage sales, marketing and distribution capabilities for medical device products throughout the Middle East, as well as in the United States, Asia and South America. He received his formal qualifications in Business and Finance from PortsmouthCollege in the UK.
“I am privileged to join the Molecular Biometrics team and to help support the worldwide launch of ViaMetrics-E. The company has developed an important new technology that we believe will positively impact infertility treatment by reducing the risk of multiple births while, at the same time, improving IVF pregnancy rates,” Leer added. “My experience in the reproductive health market will help me hit the ground running as we implement the international launch of the product in a number of countries outside the US. I look forward to being able to offer this new technology to the same customers with whom I have developed productive relationships during my career in the reproductive health market.”
ViaMetrics-E aids in the identification of viable embryos having the greatest reproductive potential, thus improving pregnancy rates in IVF, and ultimately reducing the number of embryos transferred along with the complications and healthcare costs that accompany multiple births. ViaMetrics-E is currently available commercially in several key international markets in Europe, including the UK, Ireland and Greece, as well as in Japan and Australia. Molecular Biometrics is currently working to complete the necessary regulatory requirements to market the product in the U.S.
About ViaMetrics-E
ViaMetrics-E is a rapid, non-invasive procedure for in vitro fertilization (IVF) designed to aid in the assessment of viable embryos with the greatest reproductive potential. As embryos develop they undergo specific metabolic changes and produce biological signals or “biomarkers” that are absorbed into the culture media that nourishes these cells. Using a highly sensitive method of biomarker identification (metabolomics), ViaMetrics-E then measures these signals in the spent culture media, creating a ‘fingerprint’ or biomarker profile to help determine embryo viability. Analysis can be performed in an infertility laboratory in just minutes. ViaMetrics-E provides objective assessment of viability without compromising the embryo, helping guide treatment options for patients undergoing IVF. ViaMetrics-E™ is not currently cleared for use in the U.S. by the Food and Drug Administration.
